How does Perplexity choose which sources to cite?
Perplexity has not published a complete ranking formula, so we rely on observation and testing. Across many queries, its citations tend to come from pages that directly answer the question, present facts in a clean, extractable format, show signs of being current and come from domains with an established reputation on the topic.
Because it retrieves pages at the moment of the question, technical access matters. If your site blocks its crawler, loads key content only through scripts, or hides answers behind tabs and forms, it is harder for Perplexity to use your pages even when they contain the best information.

- Clear author and company information that supports trust
- Crawl access confirmed in your robots settings
- Consistent facts that match what other sources say about you
